Professional & Educational Background

Dr. Awang Dzul-Hashriq Dharfizi began his academic career at the School of International Studies (SoIS), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in 2015 as a tutor. As of 2023, he serves as a senior lecturer. He earned a Bachelor of Human Sciences (Hons) in Political Science from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), a Master's in Strategic and Defence Studies from the University of Malaya (UM), and a PhD in International Affairs from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).

Research Interests & Expertise

Dr. Awang Dharfizi’s research centers on the complex dynamics of energy politics, with a particular emphasis on the transition towards cleaner energy sources in Southeast Asia. He delves deeply into the diverse strategies and policies that ASEAN member states adopt to navigate this transition, taking into account each country's unique socio-economic conditions, geographic challenges, and energy needs. His work also explores the critical role ASEAN plays in fostering energy diplomacy and cooperation across the region. Beyond energy politics, his academic interests extend to the foreign policies of Western European and North Atlantic states, as well as strategic studies focusing on global security issues. During his leisure time, he is an avid reader of military history, further enriching his understanding of historical military strategies and conflicts.
