Professional & Educational Background
Dr. Asmat Nizam Abdul Talib is a professor specializing in international business and marketing at the School of International Studies, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). He is currently the Chief Editor of the Journal of International Studies. Dr. Asmat has served as a Professor of International Business at KIMEP University in Kazakhstan and Tashkent State University in Uzbekistan. He was awarded the Erasmus+ KA171 exchange program at Middle East Technical University in Turkey and has been a research fellow at the Honda Foundation in Japan. Additionally, he served as a Faculty Associate at Aston Business School in the UK, teaching international marketing and business courses. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Concordia University, Canada, his MBA in International Business from Cardiff University, UK, and his PhD in International Marketing from Aston University, UK.
Research Interests & Expertise
Dr. Asmat's research focuses on international and strategic marketing, with a particular emphasis on export market intelligence and its impact on firms' export decision-making. His work aims to understand how market intelligence influences the strategic decisions of exporting firms, optimizing their performance in international markets. He has led seven Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) research grants and secured an international grant from the University of Sydney. His research has been featured in leading journals, including the International Business Review, Strategic Marketing Journal, Asia Pacific Journal of Marketing and Logistics, Journal of International Consumer Marketing, and Journal of Islamic Marketing. Dr. Asmat has also served as a consultant for the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), where he helped develop a comprehensive Digital Learning module on exporting for Malaysian companies.
