Professional & Educational Background

Nor Suzylah Sohaimi is a Senior Lecturer specializing in Urbanization and Regional Development at the Department of Planning and Property Development, School of Government, Universiti Utara Malaysia. Her academic background includes a doctorate degree in Built Environment from the International Islamic University Malaysia and a master’s degree in Urban Development and Management from Universiti Teknologi MARA. In addition to her current position, Nor Suzylah has held various significant roles in academia and research. In 2021, she served as the Head of the Division of Community Engagement at the Center for University-Industry Collaboration (CUIC), UUM. From 2022 to 2023, she held the position of Director of the Research Institute for Indonesia, Thailand & Singapore (UUM-ITS). These roles indicate her involvement in both academic leadership and research management.

Research Interests & Expertise

Her research interests span a range of topics within regional development, sustainability, social housing, and human settlement, with a particular focus on cross-border studies. This indicates her commitment to addressing pressing issues in urban and regional contexts, considering both local and international perspectives. Nor Suzylah's engagement in scholarly activities extends beyond research to editorial responsibilities. Since 2023, she has served as an Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Community Service and Rural Development at Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Moreover, she actively contributes to the academic community by reviewing articles for various journals, including the Journal of Sustainable Construction Engineering and Technology (Scopus journal published by Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia), the Journal of Population and Social Studies (Scopus journal published by the Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University), and the International Journal of Research and Innovation in Applied Science (IJRIAS). Beyond her academic and research endeavors, Nor Suzylah is involved in community projects and consultation projects. This indicates her commitment to applying her expertise to real-world challenges and making a tangible impact on society. Overall, Nor Suzylah Sohaimi's multifaceted roles and contributions underscore her dedication to advancing knowledge in urban and regional development, fostering community engagement, and promoting sustainable solutions to pressing societal issues.
